It was back in 2022, when Scarlett and Karrion Kross joined the WWE and immediately made a strong connection with the audience. They already had a fanbase from working the Independent Circuit, and they brought that into the promotion. But three years later, when their contract expired, things felt vastly different. While they still had the crowd chanting “We want Kross,” behind the scenes things were not going too well. Scarlett, Kross’s wrestling partner and real-life wife, recently revealed how the contract negotiations went, and why they finally decided it was better to leave.
Scarlett felt her professional future in WWE was directly linked to Karrion Kross
While Scarlett was the first to be signed to WWE, even before Karrior Kross, when it came to renewing their contract, it felt like her future in the promotion was all about how things progressed with Kross, and not about her at all. It felt dismissive, and that she was largely devalued.
Scarlett says she felt WWE’s handling of her contract negotiations came off as misogynistic to her:
“One of the last questions before the 24-hour notice was given, Kevin asked where I stood in all these contract negotiations. And they said, ‘We’ll get to her once we’re done with… pic.twitter.com/Wi28sRXJlh

“They said, ‘We’ll get to her once we’re done with you,’ which I took as them using me as leverage against him. It felt like a massive red flag, and I did feel like it did come off a bit misogynistic, because originally I was hired before you, and the idea that I have no value without him… that came off as very misogynistic to me.”
In a way, it felt as if she was just there as Kross’s partner, and not an individual performer. It did not sit well with either of them, and they decided to leave before things turned ugly for either party.
Karrion Kross did not want a repeat of his previous experience
According to Karrion Kross, who now goes by Killer Kross in the Independent Circuit, also revealed that something similar happened when they transitioned from NXT to WWE. He became a part of the RAW roster while Scarlett had to stay back in the NXT division.
“When I signed to go from NXT to Raw, somebody said the exact same thing to me over the phone. I go up to Raw… and she’s at home. So I was like, ‘Well, I’m not gonna do that again. We already saw exactly what happened with that.’”
Scarlett Bordeaux addresses the possibility of her and Killer Kross joining AEW:
“Whatever the next company is, that’s it, we will fight for that company until the end.”

And that is how the two of them came to the conclusion that it was better to leave the uncertainty behind along with their days in the WWE, and look for a better future somewhere else. And that could very well be the AEW, as the two of them hinted at possibly joining another company in the near future.
