Brad Marchand shares touching reaction to Bruins tribute video, admits he almost cried

Florida Panthers’ star Brad Marchand experienced a night of emotions in his first trip back to Boston’s TD Garden since he was traded from the Bruins. The crowd welcomed him warmly, and the moment was special. Brad Marchand, who played for 16 years with Boston, was moved by the reception. The video tribute paying tribute to his years with the Bruins brought him to a stop. He attempted to remain calm but confessed that it was difficult not to become teary-eyed. Having his children on the screen made the moment much more emotional for him.

Brad Marchand speaks out about tribute

The 37-year-old forward was candid about the tribute video. “I was not trying to cry… As soon as I saw my kids on the screen, it just hit like a ton of bricks,” he said. Brad Marchand spoke of his affection for Boston fans, dubbing them “special.”

He also poked fun at his youth, saying, “Man, I had some bad haircuts when I was younger.” Marchand was selected No. 71 overall in 2006 and played 16 years with the Bruins. He scored 422 goals, contributed 544 assists, and won a Stanley Cup in 2011 and becoming a four-time All-Star and a team captain for one year.

Brad Marchand propels Florida Panthers to win

On the ice, Brad Marchand assisted the Florida Panthers in getting a 4-3 victory against the Bruins. He tallied two assists during the exciting game. Mackie Samoskevich got the first goal for the Florida Panthers on a power play. 

A.J. Greer got his second goal in the early part of the second period. Boston reclaimed the lead with Pavel Zacha and Elias Lindholm scoring to force a tie. Eetu Luostarinen reinstated the Florida Panthers’ lead before.

Cut Morgan Geekie did it again. Carter Verhaeghe had the game-winning goal later in the third period. Brad Marchand’s play demonstrated his influence on the team despite his departure from Boston. The Florida Panthers next face the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday. 

The puck falls at 7 p.m. ET at Amerant Bank Arena. Brad Marchand’s emotional evening and solid performance made for an unforgettable homecoming to TD Garden. Both teams’ fans got to see a combination of nostalgia, respect, and elite-level hockey.
