Tom Brady shared a surprising update about his NFL future years after stepping away from football. The seven-time Super Bowl winner said an NFL team contacted him after his second retirement in February 2023. The offer came after his final season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brady confirmed the approach in a video posted by NFL on Fox this week. While the call caught his attention, Brady said his playing days were truly over.
Tom Brady confirms receiving another unretirement offer after Buccaneers run
Tom Brady made the comments during a video released Wednesday by NFL on Fox. The former New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback said a team reached out after he retired for the second time in February 2023.
“Yes, when I retired the second time, there was a team that reached out,” Tom Brady said. “But I’m not gonna tell you who. I’m gonna leave you guys guessing on that.”
Brady added that the idea was tempting at first. “It was actually a little bit intriguing,” he said. “But at that time, I was pretty certain that I was done-done.”
After the 2022 season, which he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tom Brady retired from the NFL. The Buccaneers made the playoffs that year but fell in the Wild Card round.
Brady closed out his career with seven Super Bowl championships, twenty-three NFL seasons, and countless records.
Winning six Super Bowls over his 20 seasons with the New England Patriots, he spent. He first played with the Buccaneers in 2020 and won Super Bowl LV in his first season.

Tom Brady explains why another NFL return is no longer possible
Even if he wanted it, Tom Brady also discussed why a comeback cannot happen now. Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd queried Brady last week if he might still play at age 48, what particularly with the recent buzz around veteran quarterbacks like Philip Rivers.
“Yes, I certainly could,” Brady said on Fox Sports. “I think the answer for me would be yes.”
However, Brady made it clear why that door is closed. “I’m not allowed to anymore because I’m a minority owner of the Raiders, so I can’t unretire,” he said.
After league approval, Tom Brady became a minority shareholder in the Las Vegas Raiders in October 2024. Active athletes are not permitted under NFL regulations to hold team ownership interests.
Brady is also starting his second year as a Fox Sports NFL analyst. He remains close to the game; he just not on the field anymore.
