Travis Kelce gets brutally honest about costly drop after Patrick Mahomes deflection led to Texans sealing Sunday win

Travis Kelce spoke with full honesty about his late mistake in the Kansas City Chiefs’ 20–10 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday night in Houston. The tight end dropped a short pass from Patrick Mahomes during the final drive, when the team still had time to tie the game. The ball bounced off Travis Kelce’s hands and was picked off by linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair. This play came with less than a minute left. It also sent the Chiefs to 6–7 on the season. On Wednesday, Travis Kelce shared his emotions on his “New Heights” podcast and used strong words to explain how he felt.

Travis Kelce shares pain after late drop in Texans game

On Wednesday, Travis Kelce told listeners of “New Heights” that the last two days had been very hard. He said he puts in “so much work” and still could not make the key play on Sunday at NRG Stadium in Houston. 

Travis Kelce said, “It’s a shtty fcking feeling,” while talking about the moment the ball slipped away on the team’s last chance. Travis Kelce finished the game with one catch on five targets for eight yards. 

This was only his second game with one catch since 2019, according to NFL game logs. Reporters at the stadium said he declined two media requests after the loss.

The Chiefs attempting to move the chains, the dropped ball arrived on second down. Azeez Al-Shaair snatched the interception following the deflection. 

Shown on the NBC Sunday Night Football broadcast, the Texans then kicked a field goal with 30 seconds to spare. 

Kansas City was knocked out of the AFC West title race by the defeat as well, therefore stopping Andy Reid’s nine-year winning streak.

Patrick Mahomes stands by Travis Kelce after tough night

Patrick Mahomes spoke to reporters after the game in Houston and backed Travis Kelce. The quarterback said his teammate is “a champion” and added that he could have thrown a better ball. 

Patrick Mahomes said the team will “give everything we have” and try to stay alive in the playoff push.

In their last season, the Chiefs will go against the Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders. 

Kansas City has to win all four games and also hope other AFC teams lose. Though hurting on Sunday, Patrick Mahomes stated he believes in Travis Kelce and knew the tight end would react.
