Jason Whitlock shared a strong message on X on Tuesday. He wrote that people treated Odell Beckham Jr. like he could not be questioned. 

In his post, he said, “It was illegal for anyone to criticize OBJ’s irresponsible behavior. You would be convicted of racism or selling out.” 

He added that young players need honest guidance and that online reactions sometimes make that difficult. His words spread fast across sports pages and added more heat to the conversation.

The moment causing the debate came from Odell Beckham Jr.’s talk on “The Pivot.” During the October episode, he explained how a “$100-million contract” looks different after taxes and life costs. 

He said, “You give somebody a five-year, $100-million contract, what is it really? It’s five years for 60.” He also said players buy homes, cars and take care of family needs, which lowers how much they can save each year.

Odell Beckham Jr. responds to online backlash

Odell Beckham Jr. replied to the criticism on Tuesday through a post on X. He wrote, “Boy u can’t say nothin in this world nowadays… People love to take shxt outta context to fit what makes sense to them.” 

His message showed he felt misunderstood and wanted people to hear the full conversation before reacting.

Reports from Spotrac show that Odell Beckham Jr. has earned $101,896,476 in his 10-season NFL career. He won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams in 2022. 

In 2024, he played for the Miami Dolphins and made nine appearances before he was waived later in the season.

The online debate continues as Odell Beckham Jr. remains an NFL free agent heading into the next year.
