George Kittle shocks viewers with honest confession about Mac Jones after 49ers’ tough loss to Los Angeles Rams

Mac Jones played one of his best games of the season on Sunday, November 9, 2025, even though the San Francisco 49ers lost 42-26 to the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium. The quarterback threw for 319 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception in the Week 10 game. One of those touchdowns went to tight end George Kittle, who later spoke highly of Jones. Kittle admitted he didn’t expect Jones to play at such a high level, calling him “a hell of a football player.”

After the game, George Kittle couldn’t stop talking about how much Mac Jones has grown this season. Speaking to reporters in the locker room, Kittle said, “I did not. Nope. It’s awesome. What a hell of a football player. I get why he was a first-round draft pick.” 

He added that Jones’ control of the offense and accuracy have stood out in recent weeks. Kittle said the 49ers’ offensive system isn’t easy for quarterbacks, but Jones has handled it with maturity.

“He’s not dangerous with the football. He makes smart throws,” Kittle added. “He forces a couple sometimes, but he’s doing a great job. For Mac to come in and take control of the offense and play at a high level consistently, it’s awesome. I’m a huge fan of Mac Jones.”

Jones’ numbers back up Kittle’s praise. With 2,151 yards, 13 touchdowns, and six interceptions on 67% of his passes this season, the former Alabama great has stepped in for injured starter Brock Purdy. In games he has started, the 49ers are 5-3; total, 6-4.

Mac Jones steadying the 49ers amid Brock Purdy’s injury

With a toe injury, Brock Purdy has missed six straight games, so Mac Jones is spearheading the 49ers’ attack. 

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said Purdy was almost back last week, but he was held out to keep the damage from getting worse. That choice let Jones remain as the starting pitcher; he has made the best of it. 

With every game, Jones has demonstrated more confidence and rhythm, distributing the ball effectively to Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, and George Kittle. 

Though Sunday was a setback, his three-touchdown performance gave supporters optimism that the 49ers might still be competitive in the NFC West. 

The team will now prepare to face the Arizona Cardinals in Week 11, with Jones likely remaining under center as the starter.
