Cam Skattebo, the rookie running back for the New York Giants, is working hard on his recovery after a serious ankle injury on Sunday, October 26, 2025 against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia.  During a live stream with creator NEON, Skattebo revealed what he plans to do once his football career ends. He said, “After football, I’m going to be a cop or a firefighter. Probably a firefighter.”

Cam Skattebo’s post-football plans

In that stream, Cam Skattebo spoke openly about life after football. He said if the NFL didn’t work out, or after his playing days are over, he would likely join the fire service.

“Probably a firefighter,” he said clearly. He also mentioned that if he wasn’t playing in the league right now, he might be working in his dad’s pest-control business, his father, Leonard Skattebo, is co-founder of Trifecta Home Services NorCal.  His honesty and calm tone stood out.

It shows Skattebo is thinking ahead, not just about his big NFL moments but about the kind of life he wants when football ends.

Cam Skattebo’s Injury, season impact and comeback road

Cam Skattebo’s rookie season started well. Before his injury, he ran for 410 yards with ten rushing touchdowns on 101 carries.

Additionally, he intercepted a number of passes for 207 reception yards. His right ankle was trapped under him while Eagles linebacker Zack Baun tackled him in the second quarter of the Week 8 game on October 26, 2025.

The outcome is a broken fibula, a dislocated ankle, and torn ligaments. Surgery he had that evening took place at a hospital in Philadelphia.

Skattebo is currently receiving therapy. Experts forecast his recovery will span many months. From the sidelines, he is going to meetings, receiving physical therapy, and remaining with the team.

The Giants’ offense lost one of their bright young players, thus the team will enter a difficult stretch of games.

The maturity Cam Skattebo exhibits in his willingness to discuss his future beyond football reveals his development. Although he is ready for a significant life after the game, he is also concentrating on returning to the field.
