What is Satya Nadella planning with his new cricket app designed during Thanksgiving break?

Satya Nadella, the chief executive officer of Microsoft, shared on Thursday, December 11, 2025, in Bangalore, India, that he has been using his free time to design and code his own cricket app. Nadella said he built the app over the Thanksgiving weekend in the United States, mixing his love for cricket and his love for technology. He explained that the app uses Deep Research AI, and he has already tested it by creating a list of all-time great Indian Test cricket players. The update came during a Microsoft event where Nadella spoke about his work and his personal projects.

During the Microsoft event in Bangalore, Satya Nadella said he wanted to try something fun during the holiday break, so he started building the cricket app on his own. 

He said the system helped him study the game with “consensus areas, debates, reasoning chains, everything,” which made the process exciting for him. He joked that the experience was so enjoyable that he “wanted to get a job on the Copilot team.”

Nadella is known for being a lifelong cricket fan, and coding the app gave him a way to study the sport in a new way. 

He shared that he uses the tool to look at scores, compare players, and understand cricket patterns that go back many years. Nadella also said he wants to keep improving the app whenever he gets free time.

The event on Thursday also highlighted how closely Nadella follows cricket, not just as a fan but also as an investor.

Satya Nadella continues growing his cricket ties through major team investments

Along with building the AI cricket app, Satya Nadella has been investing in cricket around the world. 

Nadella was part of a group of tech leaders who bought a 49 percent share in the London Spirit, a UK-based cricket team, for 147 million pounds (about 182 million dollars). 

He is also a co-owner of the Seattle Orcas, a T20 team in the United States located near Microsoft headquarters.

Nadella’s visit to India this week includes meetings with business leaders and government officials. During the same event, Microsoft announced a 17.5 billion dollar investment in India over four years, mainly for AI and cloud computing growth.
