Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a 14-year-old cricket star, has been chosen as Bihar’s vice-captain for the first two matches of the Ranji Trophy starting soon. This significant step shows his incredible talent and the trust state officials have in his leadership, even at such a young age.

Young star steps up as leader in Bihar’s cricket team

The Bihar Cricket Association picked Vaibhav Suryavanshi as vice-captain for the opening games of the Ranji Trophy, with Sakibul Gani leading as captain. This decision came just before the season because the association had to appoint a temporary selector to follow national board rules quickly. They also plan to set up a five-member selection team soon to make better choices.

Bihar will play in a lower league after a tough last season with no wins, dropping them down. They start their campaign against a northeastern team at home and then face another side away a week later. The team includes experienced batters and bowlers hoping to perform better this time.

Many believe Suryavanshi could join a stronger state team due to his knack for scoring runs and staying calm. But Bihar wants to keep him to help them return to the top league. He might miss some games due to possible selection for the junior national team for a major event next year.

Impressive youth performances lift Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s growing career

Suryavanshi began playing top-level matches in early 2024 at just 12 years old and has played a few games, scoring a small total with his best being just over 40 runs. His commitments with the under-19 national team have limited his time in the main domestic tournament. Still, he has shone brightly in youth matches abroad.

During a tour in Australia, he scored quickly at the top and smashed a century in just 78 balls in a long-format game, helping his team win. Earlier, in England, he hit a super-fast century in a one-day match and led the scoring with a high run rate. In this year’s professional T20 league, he made history as the youngest to join a team and score a century.

He played several matches as an opener for his franchise, scoring lots of runs at a fast pace. His strong performances have caught everyone’s attention and raised big hopes for his future in cricket.
