Smriti Mandhana has finally spoken in public after confirming that her wedding was called off. Smriti Mandhana says cricket has always been her first love

Smriti Mandhana said that over the last 12 years, one truth has become very clear to her — cricket is the most important thing in her life. She explained that no feeling comes close to playing for India.

“I don’t think there is anything I love more than cricket,” Mandhana said at the Amazon Smbhav Summit. “Putting on the India jersey is the biggest motivation. No matter what you’re going through, that one thought helps you block everything out.”

She said the love for batting started very early. Even as a young girl, her focus never changed.

“The obsession with batting was always there,” she shared. “People around me didn’t really get it, but in my head, I wanted only one thing, to be known as a world champion.”

Her words showed how clear her goal was, even before success came her way.

Talking about recent team success, Smriti Mandhana said it did not come easily. She explained that the moment was built on years of hard work, failures, and learning.

“This trophy was the outcome of everything we’ve been fighting for,” she said. “I’ve played for over a decade, and many times things didn’t fall into place.”

She also shared how the team kept visualizing the moment before it finally became real.

“When it finally showed on the screen, it gave us goosebumps,” Mandhana said.

The moment became even more emotional with Indian legends Mithali Raj and Jhulan Goswami watching from the stands.

“We wanted to win it for them too,” she added. “Seeing tears in their eyes made it feel special for all of women’s cricket.”
