Ravindra Jadeja exit raises questions as Marco Jansen bouncer and DRS twist stun IND vs SA Test viewers

Ravindra Jadeja faced a very tough moment on Monday, November 24, during Day 3 of the second Test between India and South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The India all-rounder got out in an ugly way after a sharp bouncer from Marco Jansen hit him on the shoulder and then took the edge. The ball flew to Simon Harmer in the slip area, and the catch was clean. The on-field umpire first gave Ravindra Jadeja not out, but South Africa took a review. Replays showed the ball touched the bat, and the decision changed.

Marco Jansen bowled the short ball in the 44th over of India’s first innings on Monday in Guwahati. Coming from outside off, the ball shot fast. Though Jadeja attempted to move away, the ball struck his shoulder and nicked the bat. 

Without difficulty, Simon Harmer grabbed the catch at slip. Marco Jansen was convinced there was contact with the bat; Ravindra Jadeja pointed at his shoulder immediately after the ball struck him. He requested the DRS from South African captain Temba Bavuma.

When the ball went past the bat, the third official noticed a distinct spike on UltraEdge. The judgement altered to out, and Ravindra Jadeja had to walk back for six runs off 18 balls. 

A close mic even caught Marco Jansen saying, “It hit the bat for sure,” before Temba Bavuma pressed the review.

At that point, India were struggling at 122/7. Only Yashasvi Jaiswal looked steady as he made 58 runs from 97 balls before he also fell in the second session.

Yashasvi Jaiswal kept India alive for some time on Monday in Guwahati. When a ball stopped after pitching, his inning finished. 

Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar were batting together when play resumed and the score changed to 135/7. 

South Africa had scored a large 489 in their first innings on Sunday, November 23. Marco Jansen struck 93 runs from 91 balls; Senuran Muthusamy made 109 runs from 206 balls. 

Temba Bavuma, Tristan Stubbs, and Kyle Verreynne provided useful 40s. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets for India. 

India lost the first Test by 30 runs at Kolkata last week, where Simon Harmer captured eight wickets.
