Quinton de Kock was ready to make a stylish return to international cricket. However, what transpired next took everyone by surprise. South Africa’s opener was dismissed cheaply, and the spotlight swiftly moved to Namibia, whose sharp bowling and daring batting turned a standard warm-up into a thrilling game.

This early exit shifted the focus to Namibia’s impressive performance. The hosts, an Associate nation, showed off their sharp bowling and fielding, which helped reduce South Africa to 68/5 early on.

They were determined to chase down the target in spite of the batting challenges encountered to some degree. This was the fourth performance Namibia defeated in the Full Member team since they defeated Zimbabwe, Ireland, and Sri Lanka demonstrating how they have become stronger in T20 cricket.

Gerhard Erasmus and Malan Kruger keep Namibia in the hunt with steady starts

Namibia’s answer showed their difficulties, starting at 28/2 after three overs, as Lourens Steenkamp was bowled by Gerald Coetzee. Erasmus made 21 runs from 21 balls, while Kruger added 18 off 21, but they dropped to 84/5. A 37-run partnership off 21 balls between Zane Green (30* off 23) and Trumpelmann (11* off 8) shifted the momentum.

Needing 11 runs in the final over bowled by Simelane, Green launched a six over long-on, followed it up with four runs from the next four balls, and then blasted the last ball through midwicket for four more. Trumpelmann was awarded Player of the Match for his impressive all-round display.

South Africa took a hit when fast bowler Gerald Coetzee had to leave the field after just 13 deliveries, which included a hat-trick of wides to Erasmus and a bouncer that made de Kock jump. He let captain Ferreira know he couldn’t go on.

Team management stated it was a “suspected pectoral muscle injury” and added, “He will undergo further assessment upon his return home.” This might affect Coetzee’s involvement in the Pakistan white-ball series scheduled from October 18 to November 8, 2025, where he was picked for both ODIs and T20Is.
