The joy of Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana was short-lived when she postponed her marriage with music composer Palash Muchhal the same day her father, Shrinivas Mandhana, complained of heart attack-like symptoms and was admitted to a hospital in nearby Sangli on Sunday. Doctors began assessing his condition, and the family put all celebrations on hold.

The ceremony was to be a high-profile one at the Mandhana family farmhouse at Samdol near Sangli. Instead, the 29-year-old batter decided to stay with him to prioritize family and health over everything else.

Wedding plans paused as medical emergency unfolds

Shrinivas Mandhana felt uneasy while having breakfast on the morning of the wedding morning and then his condition deteriorated rapidly, as claimed by the people present at the farmhouse. His family rushed him to a private hospital in Sangli, where doctors reported he had appeared to suffer a heart attack. He was taken for observation and will have more heart testing, including the possibility of angiography, depending on how his condition responds to treatment.

The venue was already set with all the festivities and pre-wedding rituals. However, when the medical emergency came up, Smriti’s business manager, Tuhin Mishra, said the cricketer asked her to call it off. He said she was adamant that the marriage wouldn’t happen until after her father had fully recovered, and asked people to respect the family during this difficult time.

The wedding was expected to draw prominent names from cricket and entertainment, and extensive preparations had been underway for days. Decorations, guest arrangements and security planning were all completed, but the abrupt turn of events brought everything to an immediate stop.

Support grows for Smriti Mandhana and her family

When news broke about the delay and her father being hospitalised, fans and well-wishers also took to social media to voice their concern. Others wished her father a speedy recovery and appreciated Smriti Mandhana for having the courage to put family first ahead of game time.

According to hospital sources, Shrinivas Mandhana is stable but under observation by the medical team. The Mandhana family has halted all celebrations for the time being, as they are prioritizing only his treatment and comfort.
